Public Exhibition: Tooraweenah Road Upgrade - changes in road height

Coonamble Shire Council is in the final stages of preparation of the Tooraweenah Road upgrade project, funded by the Australian Government.

The project involves the upgrade and sealing of up to 27kms of the unsealed road and improvements to creek and watercourse crossings. The project is on the unsealed section of Tooraweenah Road located between 30km and 57km from Coonamble.

Detailed plans of the works and changes of the road height are available for public review on Council’s ‘Public Exhibition’ webpage (please scan the QR code, below, to access these plans).

The upgrade works will typically raise the current road height by 150mm (15cm or about 6 inches).

There are some locations along the road where existing causeways will be converted to box culverts. In these locations, the road height will increase by up to one metre from the existing level.

These works will contribute to increasing the flow of both tourists and freight between Coonamble Shire and the eastern part of the State.

Property owners affected by the proposed works may express any concerns or raise questions through written submission to Coonamble Shire Council, either by post to the General Manager, PO Box 249, Coonamble NSW 2829, by email to council@coonambleshire.nsw.gov.au or by completing the online form on Council’s ‘Public Exhibition’ webpage.

Submissions should be sent before the closing date and time of 5pm on Wednesday, 7 May 2025.
