Community Vision & Values
Coonamble Shire Council acknowledges the Kamilaroi and Weilwan people as the traditional custodians of the land on which it meets and operates, respecting Elders past, present and emerging. Council and staff seek at all times to show respect to all people and cultures whose privilege they have to serve within and beyond the Local Government Area.
Vision
To lead and contribute to the development of a diverse, resilient and flourishing community, living respectfully and sustainably with the land.
Coonamble Shire Council subscribes to the ‘Eight Characteristics of Good Governance’ identified by the United Nations, being:
Participation – providing opportunities for all stakeholders within the community to be represented and/or contribute to decisions that affect them. See Council’s Community Engagement Policy and other relevant policies for ways in which it encourages and formalises this participation.
Rule of Law – operating to both the spirit and letter of the laws of NSW and Australia, guided by standards of morality and ethics explicitly identified in its policies and codes of practice.
Transparency – providing access to all stakeholders to the means and manner in which decisions are made—especially if they are directly affected by such decisions—and this is provided openly and publicly in an understandable and accessible format.
Responsiveness – responding to requests by stakeholders within a reasonable time frame.
Consensus Orientation – making decisions in a manner that reflects a deep understanding of the historical, cultural, and social context of the community, and taking into consideration the many different needs, perspectives, and expectations of a diverse citizenry.
Equity and Inclusiveness – ensuring that all the members of a community feel included and empowered to improve or maintain their well being, especially those individuals and groups considered vulnerable.
Effectiveness and Efficiency – seeking to sustainably use public resources to meet the needs of the locality in a timely manner, maximising positive outputs and outcomes in accord with identified priorities and the greater good.
Accountability – being accountable to the community in the delivery of those responsibilities it is the task of Local Government to provide, and to State and Federal Government agencies with whom it interacts, draws resources and on whose behalf it is delegated to act in various roles.
